When I was 6 years old, there was nothing I wanted more than to ride horses, but my parents weren’t convinced. So, that summer, I left home for the first time to attend Camp Ozark, a summer camp in central Arkansas. My sole reason for attending the camp, unbeknownst to my parents, was to spend all my time with horses. As soon as I arrived at camp, I changed as many of my activity blocks as I could to horse riding. That week at summer camp was my first taste of what would become a lifelong passion.
Growing up, I competed on the local Oklahoma circuit with my pony, and eventually stepped up to my first “A” shows on my first horse, Jobe at age 10. We found much success, taking home numerous champions in the 14/u childrens hunters, and ended our time together with wins in the Midwest Eq. Championship flat and o/f phase, OHJA medal ride off, and being awarded the Jack And Daisy Memorial Medal perpetual trophy. These wins solidified my passion for the Equitation.
The next year, I left for The Ethel Walker School to further both my academic, and equestrian career. Under the guidance of Linda Langmeir, Addyson Cord, and Joanna Seaver, I have been able to take my riding to the next level. I have now competed at major competitions including WEF, Lake Placid, The National Horse Show, and Capital Challenge.
I’m currently a rising junior at Ethel Walker, in Simsbury CT, and maintain a strong focus on my academics. Last year, I maintained a 3.5 gpa, and am expecting similar results this year. I am enrolled in numerous honors classes, and will begin advanced classes next year. When I’m not riding, I enjoy reading, skiing, and spending time with my friends and family.
Having the opportunity to ride at the collegiate level would confirm all of my hard work and dedication to the sport. I am very eager to find the right university for me and to hopefully have the opportunity to ride for a NCAA Division I equestrian team. I have learned priceless skills through the equestrian sport including determination, work ethic, compassion, and patience. I cannot wait to commit myself to my future team.
